A children’s book from Indian publishing house Pegasus Books is getting a lot of attention on social media — and for good reason.
Hitler on the cover of a children’s book about “Great Leaders” – WTF?!
It’s not a sick joke. Website for Indian publisher @bjain_publisher says it’s “men and women who will inspire you…who have devoted their lives for the betterment of their country…”https://t.co/rzuc8NW6Li pic.twitter.com/cligGZVXB3— Gerald Posner (@geraldposner) March 16, 2018
“Great Leaders” spotlights Barack Obama, Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and Adolf Hitler.
Yes, Hitler is among the eleven “leaders” profiled in a 48-page book for kids. It sounds like a spoof, something you would see on TheOnion.com. But, it’s not. It’s quite real.
From the Pegasus for Kids pitch.
“In the time that feels devoid of great leadership, we have found men and women who will inspire you. Some of them are famous, others little known, but all of them energize their followers and try to make the world better. The book talks about 11 leaders who have devoted their lives for the betterment of their country and people and emerged with a great leadership at the time of crisis.”
Hitler… a “great leader?”
Why should parents and teachers buy this book for kids?
According to the publisher, “The book looks at famous Indian and International leaders who with their understanding helped in setting new standards of governing.”
Really, Pegasus?
The Simon Wiesenthal Center has demanded the publisher remove the book.
